I think it depends on what you want. I am going to go with open toe shoes, but if your husband isnt a good dancer closed to shoes might be best lol just kidding. But really you should wear whatever shoes you want to wear.

what makes you more comfy, I liked closed and I could dance better with the closed ones.

At my wedding I wore a pair of white skecher comfortable tennis shoes that had rhinestones on them. I wanted to have them airbrushed and have our wedding date put on the side but I didnt have enough time as my wedding was 2 weeks away. Closed may be for Granny's but on the biggest day of your life its all about comfort. Everyone thought it was a cute idea and my feet did not hurt at the end of the night. They were great for dancing too!

it depends on what style dress you choose and the season you are getting married...you dont wanna walk in snow with open toed shoes

I went with open because after being in them all day you don't want your toes pushing into the shoe. It just gives you more room.

As for the above answer, I was never told anything about the open toe shoes in church. The dress yes, but not the shoes.
