I would like to ask all the brides and grooms and now husbands and wives, their method for finding a wedding photographer - do you look online, directories, yellow pages, recommendations, or get email quotes? the reason being I am trying to find the best places to advertise my services as a wedding photographer.

I found mine through a wedding planner. I'd say your best bet is to start advertising yourself to the other "wedding" businesses in your area. Referals are probably the best way to go. If you scratch their back and refer them, they'll normally do the same. Of course, you have to work this out beforehand.
I looked on decidio.com but I believe they charge to advertise. Also, partypop.com is about the 3rd link that comes up when you put in a city and photographer so you might look into advertising with them. Good luck!

Definately on-line that is were I found my photographer. Just remember that people are working full time jobs while trying to plan their wedding and the internet is the fastest way to research prices, locations, and albums of photographers in the area.

I found our photographer through a bridal show at the local convention center. What first attracted me to her was that she was more friendly than pushy. She also had a lot of books on display varying in price range. We pretty much ignored the ones who's price Started in the $3000 range and talked about how wonderful and great their products was.

I found mine through the Chamber of Commerce website for the city I'm getting married in. From there I went to her website.

You may try asking your other vendors as well. Bakeries, florists, venues and caterers do weddings all the time. I'm sure one who's been in the business for awhile could recommend someone.

I am only looking for someone for my engagement photos right now and I found a gal through craigslist.com she seems to be just getting started.
I looked at www.theknot.com but they are big-time pros and very expensive and I just want a few plain/simple shots for my engagement.
If I am happy I will consider hiring her for my wedding if it is in our home-town area.

I found mine by word of mouth. A friend had used him and the pictures were beautiful. I then recommended him to another one of my friends.
