I was married back in 2001 in Milwaukee, so things may have changed a bit. Here are the places that were in our top 3 list. There are probably better places, but I figured I'd throw out what I knew best.
We had our wedding reception at Pulaski Inn in Cudahy. From the outside, the place looks like a real dive. However, I thought the way the inside was decorated was quite cute. The food was by far the best we sampled (and we were allowed to take he leftovers home). Pulaski Inn was by far the best value we found in the Milwakee area. The airport area hotels are a quick, straight shot for the drunk out of towners.
Other places that I thought were worth mentioning:
The Clarion Hotel by the airport was a nice venue. There really isn't anything incredible about it, but I thought it just had a really classy look to it. It price was on the spendy side back in 2001 (about 2.5 times the price we paid at the Pulaski Inn). In the receptions I have been to there since, I thought the food was good (not excellent, but good).
If you want to have a reception at a hotel but want to avoid the big price tag, check out the Ramada Inn off of College Ave. The venue there was pleasent. I have never tried to the food, so I am not sure how it is. The price was pretty reasonable for a hotel (about 50% more expensive than what we paid at Pulaski). I thought the lobby was kind of tacky with an elephant head on the wall (andI am a hunter), but other than that, it looked OK.
If you are looking for a place to hold a rehersal dinner, I have to give a shout out to South Woods Restaurant in Cudahy. It has been one of my favorites in the Milwaukee area. It has the feel of a small town restaurant with decent prices. We would have booked ours there, but it was already taken the evening we wanted.
Good Luck to you!
