Default Can I use this song in place of the Wedding March?

I'm absolutely in love with the song "Time to Say Goodbye" and want to walk down the aisle to the instrumental version rather than the wedding march.

For those that don't know it, here's a link...

How do you think it would sound? My mom said she thinks she's heard it at a funeral once and so it wouldn't be appropriate. I think it's more of a dramatic love song.

We're having a string quartet play, so maybe that makes a difference too, but I don't think it would.

Also, Canon in D and Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring are already being used for the processional. And I really don't like Ave Maria, so I don't know what else to use.

I think it's a beautiful song personally. There are lots of other marches though--you don't have to use Wedding March or Trumpet Voluntary. I used March of the Royal Fireworks. You could also use Water and Air series. (Bach Air on a G String, Handel Water Music)

But I think that song is gorgeous. And in fact, Time to Say Goodbye...that's what walking down the aisle is. Saying goodbye to your former life, to your parents home.

its your wedding day you should march to what you want. i can't hear the song right now but if you love it just do. But, if you are looking for other options I marched to "In the Morning Light" by Yanni its a very pretty song and Yanni has some other good stuff. It's up to you.

I don't think 'time to say goodbye' is appropriate for a wedding, unless you're saying goodbye to your single life. It's your wedding though, so in the end, you need to do what feels best. I am considering the violin instrumental at the beginning of The Verve's 'Bittersweet Symphony' (although I've been told that's not appropriate too!), or 'Air on a G-String'

Actually if you are getting married in a church you need to check with them. Since it is an instrumental version there shouldn't be a problem, but some churchs have restrictions and only allow hymns or classical music to be played. You may get away with it since you are using a string quartet.

Here is a web site that has some other choices just in case, you can listen to the sound clips:

Absolutely. It is your wedding. Do what you want !!!! You are going to just have to have someone that leads everyone in standing up when you begin to walk.

Well... Aside from the fact that the lyrics sound incredibly sad to me... I don't see why an instrumental version wouldn't work as a wedding march. It is a very pretty love song.

Depending on the arrangement as performed by the quartet, it may have a different feel entirely.

If it feels right to you- I say go for it.

I think it is your wedding. i think the song is beautiful. I am getting married in July and I haven't started on my music yet but I am definitely putting that song on my list of music to consider.

I agree that you are saying goodbye to your former life.

It's not your mom's wedding, it's yours.

Really, you should do whatever you want. However, in my opinion the title of the song alone tells you that it's not appropriate for the wedding. There are many beautiful songs out there that aren't about saying good-bye. Canon in D is one of my favorites. Listen to Vivaldi's Four Seasons I think you might like it.

you can use whatever song will make you happy.

i work weddings and had one bride who had a jazz theme to her reception and ceremony music, and she walked down the aisle to at last by etta james.

however, if you really care about your mothers' opinion then maybe go buy some wedding cd's are something to that effect and come to a compromise on a song that you both love.

and i LOVE that you're having a sting quartet. i don't see how it could sound bad. plus, most people probably won't be trying to remember where this song is from because they'll be too focused on how beautiful you look as you come down the aisle!!

good luck with everything and congrats!
