Default Do wedding guests expect a full blown reception?

All the weddings I've been consist of the whole ceremony bit, pictures that seem to take for ever, meal and reception, and a dance. Is this what most people expect? I'd really like to just encorporate a speech or two into the ceremony, and have something more casual, maybe just with snacks and music for a reception. . . will guests be okay with this?
